NGS – Non Genealogical Spouse

My wife, Dorothea Poll Hufford, is (currently) a NGS (Non Genealogical Spouse).  However, she is interested when I find new facts about her family and there are various cousins (some pretty far down the family tree) plus assorted other relatives who are are searching for their roots so that I’ll be including what I discover on the Poll, Geib, Sundquest and other family members.  Within the U.S., this family grouping were mostly from Michigan with a few from northern Ohio. In general, they came to the United States from Finland, Sweden and Germany.

Getting started – Hufford, Baker, Marrett and Stutzman

While I have written blog posts in the past this will be the beginning of my genealogy blog.  I have had an interest in trying to find out more about my family for some time but it is only recently that I have had the time to become serious.  My mother, Mary Marrett, married my biological father, Glenn O. Hufford, Junior in January of 1950 but they soon realized that getting married was not the best decision either of them had ever made and they were soon separated – but not before I was on the way.  My mother’s second husband was Nolan Wayne Baker whom she met while he was playing baseball for the Chicago farm team.  My biological father died when I was eight months old and I never knew any of his family; the only reason I knew, or suspected, his father’s name was that he was a “Junior”.  I considered, and still consider, the Baker’s to be my family but I am looking at both sets along with my mother’s side of my family tree.  Adding to the challenge on my mother’s side is the fact that her parent’s were also divorced.

Finally, I’ll be adding comments and links to sources of information and organizations related to genealogy that I come across.
